Onion cost drops in Mumbai as supply rises

The steady spike in the price of onions hit a roadblock on Friday, after new crop and imported onions arrived in the APMC market. The price of old onions from the summer crop dropped to Rs 55-70 per kg, from the previous day’s Rs 65-80 per kg, at the Vashi wholesale yard. Market experts said that the price had stabilised for the time being due to several reasons—including diminishing demand because of high prices, arrival of imported and fresh crops.
